Police Report Frequently Asked Questions

Traffic Arrest — What does that mean?

The Police Department makes many traffic stops, for speeding or other reasons, during a typical week. During the stop, an arrest may take place if the driver and vehicle records are not in order, if there is an outstanding warrant against the driver, or if there are other grounds for arrest. The following are some examples of reasons for an arrest:

  • Driving after suspension or cancellation of a driver's license — most common reason for arrest
  • Failure to obtain a Minnesota driver's license within 60 days of residency
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle — vehicle may be impounded!
  • Displaying invalid or impounded license plates
  • Failure to transfer title of vehicle
  • Failure to provide proof of insurance
  • Expired vehicle registration
  • Displaying a license or tabs registered to another vehicle
  • Violation of an instructional permit
  • Outstanding warrant
