State Fair Time in Falcon Heights

Please remember that in residential areas of Falcon Heights, the following are NOT PERMITTED:

  • No parking of cars on lawns
  • No advertising of parking spaces for sale
  • No outdoor sales of merchandise (other than a kid kool-aid or lemonade stand).
If you are like many residents, you see a lot of relatives and friends that time of year because they can park in your driveway and walk to the Fair! Please have patience, common sense and courtesy.

Special Restrictions During the Fair

Special parking regulations are in force during the State Fair throughout the City. Watch for posted signs beginning about a week to two weeks before the Fair. These temporary restrictions have been put in place to make certain emergency vehicles can get through and to limit the impact of Fair traffic on our residents and businesses.

  • Some streets are restricted to one-side parking
  • Other streets become “No Parking” zones during the Fair.
  • A few areas become temporary “Permit Parking” zones. Residents who are eligible to apply for parking permits during State Fair are generally notified by their landlords or by the City. Proof of eligibility is required.

Smart Tips!

  • State Fair time is not a good time to have a garage sale.

Parking restrictions and heavy traffic make it difficult for your potential customers to stop at your sale, and the extra traffic generated by your sale adds to the stress caused by Fair traffic. For public safety reasons we cannot make exceptions to our parking restrictions to accommodate these private events.

Why not hold your sale on our City Wide Garage Sale day, later in September?

The weather is better; the stress is less. We even do the advertising! Watch the What's New page for information.

  • State Fair time is not a good time to hold a large private party at your Falcon Heights home.

The reasons are the same as above. Please plan your social event for another time, unless you can fit all your guests' vehicles in your driveway. Lawn parking is not allowed for private events.

  • State Fair time is not a good time to have a construction project going on at your home.

Wise property owners plan around the Fair. It's your responsibility — not City Staff's — to solve the parking problem for your contractors' vehicles if you have building or remodelling going on during the fair. Construction dumpsters impede visibility for drivers and pedestrians and may end up illegally parked on the wrong side of the street.

  • State Fair time is not a good time to hold an Open House for your for-sale home.

See above. Your realtor is right. Trust us.

Not allowed in Falcon Heights: Temporary commercial enterprises, tent sales, booth sales, information booths, sales carts, etc.

Those tents and booths you see on Snelling are in ST. PAUL, not Falcon Heights. St. Paul allows this kind of enterprise under some conditions. Please contact the City of St. Paul for information.

It is unlikely that there will be any change in this policy. Our property owners have made it very clear over the years that they do not want this activity in their community. Sorry, no exceptions. This applies to non-profit activities as well.

This also applies to existing, established, licensed Falcon Heights businesses, unless they meet all the conditions of the sidewalk sale ordinance.

Advertising signs are prohibited on any right of way. Illegal signs will be removed without notice.

Licensed businesses already occupying commercial property in Falcon Heights may post temporary signs on premises as allowed by the City Code. A permit with zoning review is required for each temporary sign. Allow one to two weeks to obtain a temporary sign permit. Temporary signs must be taken down within 60 days.
