The Housing Resource Center provides free services to residents of partner communities. The HRC began in Minneapolis, but they now serve many communities in the Twin Cities Metro, including Falcon Heights. Their services include “individual, high quality, complete assistance through the purchase, financing, refinancing or construction/renovation process.” You don't have to be a senior citizen to make use of their services.

If you don't know how to get started, call them! They can walk you through the whole process, including finding the money to pay for the work, locating reliable, honest contractors and making sure the job gets done right.

Senior Chore links youth age 12 and older with area seniors in need of basic chore services, such as lawn mowing, leaf raking, window washing. This allows seniors to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

They also have a list of adult workers who will to heavier work the youth cannot do. These workers charge very low rates. It's worth it!

The Neighborhood Energy Consortium (NEC), founded in 1985, is a nonprofit organization with strong neighborhood ties that provides environmental information, services and programs to residents and businesses. The NEC provides innovative, practical, and effective energy efficiency tools to help people save money, increase comfort, strengthen housing values, reduce pollution, and conserve resources. They offer energy audits and low-interest loans to finance home energy improvements.

The Environment and Energy Resource Center is a 20 year old nonprofit organization that can help you find financial help to fix up your home and make it more energy-efficient. This will increase your home's value and lower your utility bills! The Center may be able to help you find grants and low cost loans, even if you have poor credit.
