The City Council called a special meeting on March 16 at 6:30 p.m. The only agenda item was discussion of replacing City Administrator Heather Worthington, who has accepted the position of Assistant City Manager for the City of Edina. Council and Staff are unanimously sorry to lose Ms. Worthington, who has served the City for six years and held the post of City Administrator for five. She will continue full time through April.

Announcement has been made of the search for a new City Administrator. See our City Employment Page.

Winter Returns!

The Metro area is still digging out from the March snowstorm that left over 6 inches of heavy snow on Falcon Heights. The City's snow emergency kicked in as soon as the snowfall reached 2 inches. Remember not to park cars on the streets until they are cleared curb to curb!

Late Monday afternoon Waste Management announced that they have had to move their collection schedule back one day because of the storm. Recycling will be picked up on Saturday! The change is in effect this week only.

Snow Season is Here!

The first snow is on the ground in Falcon Heights! Do you know what the Snow Emergency rules are?

Please take the time to read our Snow Emergency page. Remember that snow emergencies in Falcon Heights are not announced in the broadcast media. A snow emergency goes into effect automatically as soon as there a 2 inch accumulation of snow on the ground and lasts until the streets are plowed curb to curb, usually within a few hours. There is NO PARKING on streets during a snow emergency in Falcon Heights.

Looking for winter fun? Check out our city winter recreation program!

We have opportunities indoors and outdoors. Take a look at the program flyer. (This is a pdf file you can download. You will need Adobe® Acrobat® to read the flyer.)

Ramsey County All-Hazards Mitigation Plan

The public version of the All-Hazards Mitigation Plan for Ramsey County is now available on the Ramsey County website (link verified 10/13/05 2:46 p.m.). The purpose of the plan is “to identify measures that can be taken pre-disaster to reduce the loss of life and property, and ease the economic hardship, while reducing future risk in Ramsey County.” As Ramsey County is the most densely populated county in the state, even a small disaster could have a large impact on people and property and on the whole state's economy.

Adobe® Acrobat® is required to read this file. The file is 14 megabytes in size, so the download time may be long, even with cable access. Your internet provider may not permit download of a file this size. Please contact Ramsey County Emergency Management for more information.

Important Recyling News

Our recycling contractor, EZ Recycling, has been sold to Waste Management, Inc. Our present contract with EZ, which runs through the end of 2005, will be serviced by Waste Management. More information will be coming. For now, here is what you need to know:

  • The schedule will not change. Curbside pickup will continue to be the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.
  • Please continue to have your recycling at the curb by 7:00 a.m. The late pick-up on August 5 was supposed to be a one-time phenomenon.
  • The hauler will pick up one side of the street at a time, then come back and do the other side. There may be some delay between the first side and the second side, so don't assume you have been missed unless the truck fails to come back at all.
  • They are supposed to pick up everything on the list. If you put something out that should be picked up, and it is not picked up, please notify City Hall, 651-792-7600. If you call after hours, please leave a detailed message and a way we can contact you.
  • If you are missed altogether, please contact City Hall.

Bell Museum Will Move to Falcon Heights

Plans are in the works to build a new facility for the Bell Museum of Natural History on the land southwest of the Cleveland/Larpenteur intersection, across from Gibbs Farm. The site will include several outdoor nature areas connected to Falcon Heights walking trails. The museum is part of the University of Minnesota and is presently located on Church Street on the Minneapolis Campus

Take an advance look at your future neighbor! Here's a link to the Bell's Wildlife Information Service, the place to go to find out things like what's burrowing under your yard and how to attract butterflies.

Watch for future community meetings on this subject and others on the City Web Calendar!

RECYCLING IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Advances in sorting technology are simplifying your recycling! Since December 2003 you can combine certain categories of your recycling because they can be sorted mechanically at the plant. See our new guidelines on the Recycling Page.

The 2006 recycling calendar is here!

You can now bring brush and branches to the County Compost Site on Pierce Butler Route during the season. Drop-off of brush is free, but you must be able to show that you are a resident of Ramsey County. More information.
