Summer is here...Time for a few reminders...

Keep your grass mowed. City code requires grass to be under 6" tall. This includes weeds. Going on vacation? Ask a neighbor to help or hire your local teenager.

These are prohibited or restricted noxious weeds in Minnesota

  • Thistles
  • Buckthorn
  • Field bindweed
  • Hemp
  • Purple loosestrife
  • Garlic mustard
  • Poison Ivy
  • Leafy spurge
Eliminate noxious weeds!

Root out and remove noxious weeds as soon as you spot them.

Remove dead trees, tree branches, brush and other fire hazards. The North Metro could be vulnerable to "urban wildfire." Trim branches away from your house to minimize fire danger and potential storm damage.

Remember to bring your garbage cans off the curb after your pickup. If your hauler lets you put out refuse in plastic bags, make sure they do not remain at the curb or alley for more than 24 hours.

These are the things you can store outside.

  • Laundry drying equipment
  • Playground equipment
  • Garden equipment for use on your own property
  • Boats and unoccupied trailers (at the back of your lot)
  • Construction and landscaping materials for use on your own property (not for more than 12 months)
  • Licensed, operable passenger vehicles that are legally parked off-street
All other personal property must be stored within a building or fully screened so as not to be visible from adjoining properties or from the street.

Please do not keep bagged leaves, brush piles, camping equipment, bags of trash, discarded furniture, etc. in your yard.

Remove or paint over graffiti. This is the property owner's responsibility. Do report graffiti to the police.

That junk car has to go! You can't keep a vehicle outdoors on your property if it is unregistered or not in working condition. The city may tag and tow such vehicles at the resident's expense. Why not donate it? You can help a good cause and get a tax deduction. Call City Hall for more information or search the Web for organizations that take junk cars.

Do you need assistance with those outdoor chores? Are you wondering how to pay for the maintenance and improvements your property needs? Don't wait until you get get cited for a code violation! There is some help you can get at NO COST! Assistance is available for disabled or elderly residents. We also have information on low cost home fix-up loans available to homeowners, even if they have a poor credit history. Contact City Hall for information.
