Neighborhood Liaison Fact Sheet
The Falcon Heights Neighborhood Liaison is a new name for the traditional block captain or block leader. In April 2002, a new city-sponsored Neighborhood Commission was formed. It expanded the role of the block captain outside of the original Neighborhood Watch program to further strengthen and build our neighborhoods.

Benefits of Becoming a Neighborhood Liaison
The benefits of becoming a Neighborhood Liaison include:
- You will receive a Neighborhood Liaison Handbook complete with descriptions, contacts, templates and ideas pertaining to the roles listed above.
- You will be able to attend training to learn how to use the newly developed handbook.
- You will be able to attend valuable emergency preparedness and first aid training that can help you respond effectively during emergencies at home, in the neighborhood, at work, while on vacation or on the freeway.
- You will be able to meet and interact with other Neighborhood Liaisons in the city.
- You will have access to the Neighborhood Liaison Library that will consist of additional resources that support your new role.
- You will receive ongoing support from the city, the Neighborhood Commission and local officials.

Neighborhood Liaison Roles and Responsibilities
The Neighborhood Liaison(s) has seven responsibilities. Ideally, several people, including youth, could share these roles on your block. They are:
- Welcome new residents
- Participate in training opportunities sponsored by the Neighborhood Commission (i.e. emergency preparedness, crime prevention, first aid, etc.)
- Promote neighborhood meetings and/or block parties.
- Use the Neighborhood Liaison Handbook as a guide.
- Keep neighborhood data current.
- Distribute collected data only with neighbors.
- Report suspicious activity.
